Composer Lilja María Ásmundsdóttir and dancer Inês Zinho Pinheiro have been working together on various projects since 2018.
In the last two years, they have exchanged videos, sound fragments and thoughts related to the inner life of the performer. Their ideas gave rise to the work Internal Human, which has developed both as a stage piece and as a video installation. The play premiered in Harpa on July 26 on the occasion of the publication of the work. The work is published by Smekkleysa and was be released on CD on July 22, but the CD also include access to the video work.

The piece is inspired by a sound sculpture built by Lilja María in 2020. The sculpture was designed based on ideas about what kind of movements naturally occur when playing the strings. Lilja María plays the sculpture and other instruments while Inês transfers her movements to the different environments projected into the hall. The drawings and architecture found in the projection were chosen based on visual connections to the design of the sculpture. The shapes in the video projection then inspire Inês to develop the movements in new directions. The transfer takes about an hour and is non-stop.
