Guðlaugur Hjaltason, who performs under the name “Lýðskrum“, has released the song “Verðbólguvandinn“, the song was written by the renowned Hreinn Laufdal 40 years ago and now it awaits its new destiny in the management of Lýðskrum.
This song, which has deep roots in Iceland’s history, deals with the nation’s persistent inflation issue and offers satire on social and economic challenges.
But each song is as good as the band behind it. Guðlaugur calls Lýðskrum his “brainchild”. However, the musical genius does not stand alone. He is supported by a dream team that shows the incomparable talent of Haraldar þorsteinsson in laying down bass lines, Ásgeirs Óskarsson who sets the rhythm with drums, Pétur Hjaltested with a keyboard band and collaboration with recording management and arrangements. And of course, the core of all this is Lýðskrum himself – Guðlaugur Hjaltason – giving voice to the story and playing the guitar.
Together they present the song which is both fun and thought provoking.
Lýðskrum is also in the middle of working on an album entitled “Fólk fer.”
If the song “Verðbólguvandinn” is an indication of what’s to come, fans are in for a treat. While Icelandic music continues to develop, Lýðskrum is at the forefront and ensures that classics like “Verðbólguvandinn” are never forgotten.

So, here’s to the past, present and future of Icelandic music, which consists of soulful strings and captivating words. Cheers to Lýðskrum for reminding us of the power of music to spark change, inspire reflection and ignite joy.
