Icelandic artist Brynja released her latest single My Oh My on September 22. The single is the last single from her long-awaited debut album called Repeat, which will be released on October 20th and is published by Alda Music.
Brynja officially released her first single in 2018 and has been putting her name on the map ever since. In 2021, she released the hit Easier and her song Fight was included in the Icelandic Netflix hit series Kátlu. She lived in the Netherlands between 2017 and 2021, where life was beautiful until the coronavirus hit and all kinds of personal challenges awaited her.
„I wrote the song in a deep depression. My relationship ended, I was unemployed, homeless and covid came… I wanted to get my life back on track and make big life decisions but it’s hard when everything is a mess. Then it’s hard to know where to start. I was so frustrated with myself, I just felt like my heart was speaking a language I didn’t understand.” – Brynja
The single is the last from her upcoming debut album, Repeat. Earlier in the year she released the single Mildly Insane, a collaboration with a Dutch musician she met on the streets of The Hague, it was released on August 19 and can be found here.
If Brynja’s music were a season, it would be spring. Even when her darker sides are explored, there is hope to be found. Brynja tackles issues like inequality and global warming along with her personal challenges and love life. Her music creates a space for listeners to reflect and accept the ups and downs as part of life’s journey.
Brynja studied contemporary dance at the Iceland Academy of the Arts and sound technology at SAE in Amsterdam. In the Netherlands, she met a group of international musicians who became her close friends and colleagues. Together they shared a studio space where a lot of music and memories were made, including her upcoming album. Brynja’s latest releases have been successful on radio as well as streaming services.
