The Icelandic musician Fríða Dís has released her second solo album, Lipstick On. The album includes nine songs that could be described as pop-influenced rock where the subconsciousness takes control and the playful bliss is ever-present.
The album consists of nine original songs with lyrics in English, including two duets; Baby, You Are Bad News with Soffía Björg and Shower Shock with Halli Valli. The songs, which were written during a one year period of a creative flow, include a variety of themes, from lipstickal kisses from space to electrified shower trips. The Key to My Future Heart was the first song to be released in September ‘21 and was used as an intro in the podcast Kennarastofan (The Teachers’ Room). The second single, Cats & Cassettes, was released last in June ‘22.
The songs and the lyrics are written by Fríða, who also sings lead vocals and plays the bass as well as producing and being the artistic director of the album. The album was recorded by Smári Guðmundsson, the recording producer, at Smástirni. Smári also plays electric guitar, baritone guitar and acoustic guitar and is the co-writer of The Key to My Future Heart. Halldór Lárusson plays drums and percussion and is the co-writer of Thrifting. Production was also in the hands of Stefán Örn Gunnlaugsson at Studio Bambus who played piano, keyboards, wrote background film-like score and sang vocals as well as mixing the songs. Soffía Björg features Baby, You Are Bad News as well singing vocals in other songs. Shower Shock is featured by Hallbjörn Valgeir Rúnarsson (Halli Valli). María Rún Baldursdóttir, Viktor Atli Gunnarsson and Ásbjörg Jónsdóttir sing vocals and the actor Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson is part of a dialogue in Guidelines for Dreamers.
Mastering was done by Sigurdór Guðmundsson at Skonrokk Mastering. The album is designed by Arnar Fells at Arnar&Arnar and Fríða Dís, and Björgvin Guðjónsson did the layout. Album photo is shot by Þorsteinn Sürmeli. Lipstick On is published by Smástirni.
