The album contains 10 new songs from the band that are in genre areas such as pop/funk/soul. Dopamine Machine has been active in the Icelandic music scene since 2021 and has released 3 singles.
The album was recorded, mixed and arranged by Róbert Aron, the band’s saxophonist, together with Ívar Andri, singer and guitarist. The cover art was drawn by Meatsoda and references lyrics in the album.

The songwriting of the album began unconsciously in the summer of 2020 when Ívar Andri and Júlíus Óli, the band’s former keyboard player, worked on creative summer jobs in Egilsstaðir. The oldest songs on the album are from that time. Newer songs are written by Ívar in his home studio in Reykjavík. Ívar then brings a demo to rehearsals and the group then develops it into the band’s sound together. The album draws inspiration from the various musical genres. It includes soul, psychedelic rock and funk to name a few.
“There’s no need to stick to one style of music when there are so many good ones.”
“Carelessness is serenity”
We think it sends a good message about letting go a little bit. Take a step back and don’t take yourself too seriously. The lyrics on the album reflects these thoughts. We had to remind ourselves of this when the album was almost finished and kick out the perfectionist voice in our head because nothing will ever be perfect.

The band has been active since 2019 and was founded during the Covid epidemic. The time was well spent with writing and recording the material that now appears on the band’s first LP. The album is recorded and produced by the members of the band. Dopamine Machine has played a lot of in Iceland and is known for its high energy and lively stage presence. The band consists of Hjálmar Karl Guðnason on bass and vocals, Benjamin Haraldsson on guitar, Jóhannes Guðjónsson on electric piano and keyboard, Ívar Andri Bjarnason on guitar, vocals and synthesizer, Bergsteinn Sigurðarson on drums and vocals, Róbert Aron Björnsson saxophone along with recording and mixing and Sigurrós Jóhannesdóttir plays Trumpet and sings.
