The Icelandic not-so-boy-band Boncyan release their cover of Pálmi Gunnarsson’s “Þorparinn” in time for Þjóðhátíð 2022. Boncyan turns the song into an upbeat, more danceable, electro-pop hit and has Tom Hannay (UK) singing in Icelandic for the first time.
“I’ve heard this song before so many times and love it. It was intimidating to attempt because this isn’t the easiest song to sing, all the long words and pace of the song made it a challenge. I also know how popular this song is and we were afraid that people would be upset if they heard the song being ‘ruined’ by a foreign singer. I guess we should let the public be the judge.” – Tom Hannay.

The song is released as a b-side on their new single “Anastasia”, released simultaneously. For those who would like to boncyan live, they are playing at Básar in Þórsmörk this weekend, on the 30th & 31st of July at 22:00. Boncyan is Janus Rasmussen, Sakaris Emil Joensen, and Tom Hannay. They previously released their debut EP “Deluge”, containing the single “Wait For It” ft. GDRN.
