Maryan Pyrozhok (Pyrih) – musician, poet and artist, together with his fellow musicians (Batih), presents the musical and poetic project “Pyrih and Batih”. The goal of this project is to raise the Ukrainian poetic layer to the next level, socially canonizing poets and popularizing the Ukrainian language through various musical genres. Pyrih also interprets Ukrainian translations of folk songs from around the world, in particular the Icelandic saga “Song of Asbern”.
In the concept of the project, Batih (Eng. Translation – ”Whip”) acts as an artifact of the dramatic past and cultural heritage of Ukraine. At the same time, in the hands of musicians, the Whip turns from an instrument of punishment into an instrument of enlightenment, and in such a way that a mark remains in the memory.
The visual style of the project (made by Maryan Pyrozhok) is presented in the language of symbols and signs, and is an integral part of it. This coded writing and anonymous antisocial slang imposes allusions to the mystical interpretation of the world.
